What will others think of me?
What will the other person think of me…?
What someone else thinks of me doesn’t stand in the way of me being in my power.
We’re often guided by what others think. Or rather, by what we think they think. We do things to win favour. We want to avoid criticism. About how we look. About the opinions we hold. Or we avoid doing certain things to escape shame. It makes sense, because belonging is a basic human need.
By focusing your attention on the possible judgement of the other, you lose contact with yourself. You miss the connection to your own mission. To what you want. To your passion and dreams.
Nonviolent Communication teaches us to listen to our internal voice. What do we feel? What do we think about it? What choices do we want to make for our happiness? Taking good care of yourself works best when you also consider others.
By communicating from your inner strength, you increase your impact on your environment. From the feedback of our participants and clients, we’ve learned that Nonviolent Communication has many benefits:
- Increased productivity and collaboration: people who can be themselves and feel valued are happy to contribute to a bigger whole.
- Better relationships and conflict resolution: self-aware people deal with others constructively. They respond quickly to conflicts by finding solutions through dialogue.
- Better customer service: satisfied people take initiative more readily to please customers. Thanks to their positive attitude, they respond more constructively to customer requests. Even when the feedback is blunt and reproachful. People who feel good about themselves show more empathy. Through their empathy, they provide both acknowledgement and real solutions.
- Innovation and creativity: confident employees take risks more easily and drive innovation and creativity. They take initiative in a fast-changing world.
- Greater employee engagement and satisfaction: when employees feel heard and respected, they’re more engaged in their work and feel more connected to the organisation. This results in higher employee engagement and satisfaction, which in turn promotes talent retention.
Integrating an attitude of self-connection and Nonviolent Communication in organisations brings numerous benefits, from improved relationships and collaboration to increased productivity and employee engagement. It creates a culture where everyone can thrive and contribute to the organisation’s success.
